Brenner Family of Dealerships to Rebate $15,700 from Cash for Clunkers Program to Customers

On November 17, the Brenner Family of Dealerships will mail rebate checks to 108 customers who purchased vehicles from Brenner Chrysler Jeep and Brenner Nissan through the federal government's "Cash for Clunkers" program.  C.E.O. Michael Brenner will announce the rebates and will present the first checks of $150 each to four customers at the Brenner Nissan Showroom at Noon on 11/17.

Through the Cash for Clunkers program, Brenner Motors sold 108 vehicles which enabled their customers to receive a subsidy of up to $4,500 when they traded in their older, less efficient cars for new models.  After sending the clunkers to salvage companies, Brenner received $15,700 for the scrap metal remaining after the engines were disabled.

Although the federal program does not specify what should be done with the money received by dealers from salvage companies, Michael Brenner and the Brenner management team determined that the money should go to the individuals who took advantage of Cash for Clunkers and traded in their vehicles for new ones.  "It is the right thing to do," explains Thomas Couch, General Manager of Brenner Chrysler Jeep.  "We know that in this challenging economic climate the rebates will be most welcome, especially for individuals and families who may be struggling to make ends meet.  And getting the checks in the mail before Thanksgiving and the onset of the holiday season is a great way to spread the holiday spirit."   Each of the 108 customers who purchased cars from the Brenner Family of Dealerships through the Cash for Clunkers program will receive a letter from the management and a check for between $100-200.

In order to receive federal reimbursement for the subsidy consumers got for trading in their cars, dealers are required to destroy the engine to insure that it cannot be put back on the road again.  Once the engine is dead, a recycling lot can take possession of the car and has 180 days to sell the pieces of the vehicle that retain some value.  Even though the engine cannot be reused, everything from the scrap metal to the hubcaps is available to be sold.  Salvage yards and recycling businesses are paying car dealers between $100-200 for the scrap metal.
